On October 23, the Nova Folk Instruments Ensemble of the Naregatsi Art Institute performed at the Green Zone of the COP17 (17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity) international environmental summit.
During the event, the Ensemble, led by artistic director and conductor Herbert Asatryan, presented a rich repertoire. The program featured Armenian folk pieces, as well as music composed for films by the renowned composer Tigran Mansuryan.
The Nova Folk Instruments Ensemble was founded in 2015 with the aim of preserving, developing, and transmitting the rich heritage of Armenian traditional music to the younger generation.
The performance of the Nova Ensemble within the framework of COP17 once again emphasized the inextricable connection between culture and nature, best representing Armenian national musical art on the international stage.
The connection between nature and music was no coincidence on a platform like COP17; after all, humans essentially "borrowed" traditional Armenian musical instruments from nature. The play of wind and reeds has become shvi, the rhythm of percussion instruments has become dhol. And stringed instruments - the tar, the kamancha, and the qanun - originated from the sound of the taut string of a hunting bow, becoming the language of harmony between man and nature.
