Meeting with Composer John Hodian

Naregatsi Art Institute hosted the recurrent event of the Project “Interconnecting through Culture” being implemented thanks to the cooperation with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

During this event the participants had a unique opportunity to listen to composer, conductor, pianist, founder of the Naghash Ensemble John Hodian.

John Hodian had a talk with the participants about his works, the process of creating music for theater, films, rediscovering Armenia, as well as about the formation of the Naghash Ensemble.

At the end of the meeting John Hodian answered the questions raised by the participants.

John Hodian is a composer, conductor, and pianist who has worked in a wide variety of idioms—from classical to jazz, rock to rap, and traditional to avant-garde theater.

The Naghash Ensemble founded by John Hodian is unique in its style with musical combinations. In its music, it combines the earthy spirituality of Armenian folk song, new classical music, modern post-minimalism and the energy of rock and jazz.
