THE MIRACULOUS FLOWER IN NAREGATSI
The Naregatsi Art Institute was the host to an exceptional event aimed at promoting an understanding and awareness of disability issues and mobilizing support for their dignity, rights and well-being. A theatre play was performed where artists, who were children and young people with disabilities, particularly with mental disabilities, retest their right to be a part of an inclusive and accessive society.
“Prkutyun” NGO head Arpine Abrahamyan told us about the history of the organization since its foundation in 1997, that despite all the difficulties she managed to support the mentally disabled children and young people and help them live with their families being a full member of the society.
The Theatre Troupe operating under the artistic supervision of stage director Karine Margaryan was founded in 2008, and is entirely comprised of people with disabilities and mental problems,'' said Abrahamyan, adding that that children had different performances in Artsakh as well.
The "Prkutyun" is in need of care and attention, since they lack the financial resources to cover the basic household problems.
The theatrical play, The Miraculous Flower, which focuses on disability as a major theme by exploring it through personal stories and reflections, which have the powerful potential to influence social reform in removing social barriers, empowering people with disabilities and their communities, furthering their full participation in social life, equality, dignity, and justice, was received with a storm of applause by the audience.
The event was held as part of the Naregatsi Art Institute permanent series of events, Together with People with Disabilities, designed to contribute to the social integration of this socially vulnerable community, their artistic fulfillment, and their right to full social participation.
In this sense, Naregatsi vision is fully in line with "Prkutyun"'s mission and activities, which the teachers of the Center formulate in the following way: "It is only important to have a desire; the rest can be achieved by believing in them and working with them."
