Holy Tuesday

The Purports of Holy Tuesday at Naregatsi Art Institute was elucidated by Deacon Edgar Tsaturyan, priest from St. Trinity Church. On the Holy Tuesday the Armenian Apostolic Church commemorates the Parable of the Ten Virgins" (Mt 25:1-13).

The parable is about five foolish and five wise virgins, who are going with the lanterns to meet the bridegroom. The wise take oil with them, while the foolish do not. When the time comes to meet the bridegroom, the oil of the lanterns runs out. Those who have not taken oil with them, go back to buy some, whereas those who are ready enter the wedding hall with the bridegroom.

Ten wise virgins symbolize all the believers who deserve the God's mercy due to their pious life. The lantern and the oil show the way. The coming of the Bridegroom mentions the coming of the Lord, no one knows the time when he will come. The message of the parable is that one should be ready to the coming of the Lord. “Be awake, as you know neither the day, nor the time" (25.13).
