The documentary movie They Call Me Mother was screened at he Naregatsi Art Institute on 5 November, 2008. The documentary is about Norwegian missionary Bodil Burne who witnesses the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The documentary tells about how her granddaughter Jucy Burne, who is an Armenian from her father’s side, finds her grandmother’s memoirs and letters and decides to follow in her footsteps in search of her Armenia roots. The film is also a new page as far as the documentation of the Armenian Genocide is concerned.
Prior to the screening of the documentary some of Bodil Burne’s letters, photographs and personal belongings, maps, medical equipment and newspaper clippings were showcased at NAI as part of an exhibition entitled Bodil Burne’s Journey.
Jucy Burne was present at the event. Thanking those present and the organizers of the event she said -This meeting with the Armenian audience was very important for me. After getting to know Armenia and the Armenian nation I want Norway to also learn of the Armenian culture and history and my goal is to establish a link between these two nations and help it develop.
"Bodil Bioern’s road" Bodil Katharina Bioern /1871-1960/ was a Norwegian pioneer, nurse and missionary. She devoted her life to helping the Armenian people, especially the children. She witnessed the Armenian genocide up close, an experience that nearly took her life.
