Commemorating the 89th Anniversary of Armenian Genocide through Art

The Naregatsi Art Institute tribute to the Armenian survivors and the future generations took place on April 24, 2004 at Cooper Union Hall in New York. This was the second annual presentation by the Naregatsi Art Institute. The outstanding program included an art exhibit, a musical program and inspiring words from two survivors.
The works of the photographers and painters (Arto Tchakmakchian, Hrair Hawk Khacherian, Artashes Hakobyan, Sevan Naccashian, etc.) featuring the stunning scenes of Mt. Ararat, ancient churches, cross stones, historic towns and villages in Armenia, Artsakh and Nakhichevan were showcased in the Cooper Union Auditorium.
The musical program included the performances by the Narek Bells Choir, YY Sisters Trio, jazz singer Tatevik Hovhannisian, singer/composer Vahan Artsruni and Anoush Barclay with the Hye Ensemble.
Two survivors Phoebe Kapikian and Louise Dingilian shared their life stories with the audience.

Noted sculptor Arto Tchakmakchian’s “Cross through the Centuries”, which displayed a formless “every person” figure in the crevices of a bronze cross, reflected the essence of Vahan Artsruni and Anoush Barclay evening. “For a human, the arms, heart and other organs are not necessary to be shown. Just the spirit, for it is through the spirit of art that our endurance prospers…,” the sculptor said with emphasis.
