Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide through the spirit of the arts

It has become traditional to commemorate the Armenian Genocide at the Naregatsi Art institute with a series of events assembled under the title "Commemoration Through the Spirit of Art".
Every year, on April 24 Naregatsi Art Institute features a concert and an exhibition with the participation of artists form not only Armenia but from all over the world. In 2008 the program was enlarged, besides music and fine arts, it also included photography, film and literature and evolved into a 5 day processions of events extending form April 21-25.

The April 21-25 events were the following:
April 21, Film screening; Avedis Ohanian "Memories" and Tigran Khzmalian "Armin Wegner; The Genocide Photographer". Following the screenings a meeting-discussion with Tigran Khzmalian.

April 22։ Actor Rouben Karapetyan recited extracts form Grigor Narekatsi, Charents, Toumanian, Sevag, Aharonian. The recitation was accompanied by spiritual music performed by Tatevik Movsesyan and Tamara Mosinyan.

April 23։ film screening; Carla Garabedian "Screamers" and Taviani brothers "The Skylark Farm"

April 24, 5 pm։ the opening of a exhibition featuring painting, ceramics, photography, miniature painting, rugs and other creations of art. Participating in the exhibition were 18 artists who had previously held individual exhibitions at the NAI Yerevan center. April 24, 7 pm։ Concert dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide with the participation of Speghani Children’s Choir, Linos String Quartet, Mihr Plastic Dance Theater, singers Vardan Galstyan, Marianna Poghosyan, Arsen Hambaryan and Ofelia Khachadouryan and other artists. The concert was concluded by a vigil procession under the accompaniment of spiritual music performed by Paros Choir.

April 25, 7 pm։ the presentation of the book "A Life-Sentence of Martyrdom" and a meeting discussion with the author, Lebanese Armenian Gevorg Abelyan. The book was published in 2005 on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and in the words of the author, is dedicated to the memory of all known and unknown victims or survivors of the Armenian Genocide whose lives turned into book. In attendance at the meeting was writer Hrachia Matevosyan, literary critic Youri Khachaderyan, linguist Haykanoush Mesrobyan and many others.
